Security and privacy

Your data at fishline

Anglers guard their spots, so we built fishline to keep as little about you as it can. Here is what we keep, what we never ask for, and what nobody else gets to see.

How we look after it

  • No birthday, no phone number

An account is a name, an email and a password. We never ask for your date of birth or your phone number. Guides can add a business phone to their listing so anglers can call to book, and nobody else is asked for one.

  • Passwords are hashed with bcrypt

We never store your password, only a bcrypt hash of it, so nobody at fishline can read it. If you forget it, we email you a code to set a new one.

  • Catches are private until you share them

Every fish you measure goes into your private Catch Log. Nobody else sees your name, photo or spot with it unless you choose to share it, and you can delete a shared catch any time.

  • The Catch Map stops at the county

Shared catches show on the Catch Map rolled up by state and county. Private catches count there too, with no name, photo or spot: All Catches shows only the species, weight, length, county and month. There is never a pin on the water where you caught a fish.

  • Location comes off your photos

Phone cameras can tuck the GPS spot, the camera and the time into a photo. fishline takes all of it out before a photo is measured or stored, so a photo you share cannot give your spot away. If it had a date and place, we keep them with the catch, privately.

  • Delete your account from Settings

Open Settings and tap Delete Account. You are signed out everywhere and your catches and posts disappear from the app and fishline.ai. Rather we do it? Email us from the address on the account.

Who else handles it

We do not sell your data. Your account, catches, photos and messages are handled only by the companies that run fishline: Vercel for hosting and photo storage, Neon for the database, OpenAI to read a photo and measure the fish (data sent through their API is not used to train their models), Stripe for website payments (we never see your card number), and Brevo and Resend for email.

There is no ad tracking in the apps or on fishline.ai.

The full details are in the privacy policy.

Questions, or found a problem?

Email nate@rackline.ai. A person reads every message. If you think you have found a security problem in fishline, tell us there and we will look at it right away.
